Having enjoyed a rather spectacular second half of the season, newly-rich Newcastle United can look forward to some pretty big deals this summer. The club has shown that the new money that has come into the club has energised the place and made the fans dream once again. Eddie Howe has done a fine job in taking the club into the top half of the table, and could be set to stay there by the end of the season. That would be a remarkable turnaround for a team that was, for many, dead and buried for the season.
However, despite already being improving, it has been noted that Newcastle still need more signings. The team is improving, but key parts of the team look like they need to be improved. One area in particular is at left-sided full-back. Newcastle lack depth and quality there, and could turn to a side they raided in January to find a solution.
Having signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid in January, the Toon might be back on a flight to Madrid in the summer. They wish to make a punt at signing the impressive Renan Lodi, who played a key role in knocking Manchester United out of the UEFA Champions League this year.
The full-back would be expected to slot right into the side, replacing the on-loan Matt Targett and cementing himself as the go-to option at left-back. The impressive nature of his game is his length and speed, as well as his ability to move both down the line and into central areas to combine.
Given the way Howe has Newcastle playing, Lodi would fit in perfectly. He would also join a growing Brazilian contingent at the club who have enjoyed some fine seasons together.
Newcastle starting North East Samba revolution?
With Joelinton finding the kind of form he never showed in the archaic style carried out by the previous manager, Howe has found an interesting possibility. The former Hoffenheim man looked like a waste of a club record fee, but now has morphed into both a cult hero and a weekly performer for Newcastle. His form has been one of the main talking points of the season, and looks set to continue.
Joelinton is also backed up by the hugely impressive Bruno Guimares. Signing from Lyon in the summer, Guimares has transformed the Newcastle midfield and made it much easier for them to play at the highest level. His unique blend of technique and gallous play makes him an excellent addition for the Premier League. For Newcastle, it is hoped that he can become the face of the team and help lead this newly moneyed era into success.
Given how he has started, and the form of Joelinton, signing a third Brazilian could make plenty of sense. When the player carries the style and form of Lodi, too, it would make even more sense for a Newcastle team that is very much on the upward curve under Howe.
